Author Information

Sir Cyril Taylor GBE has been Chairman of the Specialist Schools Trust since in was founded in 1987. In that role he has served nine successive secretaries of state for education as their adviser on the specialist school initiative. He was awarded a GBE (Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire) in 2004 for services to education. Conor Ryan is now senior adviser to Tony Blair on education. When he co-wrote this book he was a professional writer and journalist contributing regularly to TES, Independent, Guardian, Daily Mail and Public Finance. Before that he was special adviser to David Blunkett, Secretary of State for Education and Skills, from 1997 to 2001.
