OverviewFrom 1980 to 1990, the British Museum Expedition to the Middle Egypt conducted excavations at el-Ashmunein, the ancient mound of Hermopolis Magna. Known in Graeco-Roman times as the great city of Hermes, the site has since been published in several volumes covering various aspects of the material remains. This volume catalogues the excavated property, both fine and coarsewares, as well as lamps and glass which come mostly from the main Thoth Temple area and date from Late Roman, Umayyad and Abbasid periods.
