Everything in Between

Overview

In this debut collection, Shagufta’s poems reflect the things that mean the most to her. There are poems about family, love friendship and faith, Eid, climate change, ninja cats, geraniums, Bath, and Bristol, The Coral Reef, chillis and even shoelaces; all illuminating her vibrant imagination, her passions, and her very distinct voice. Shagufta says, ‘this is a book for young people who are trying to make sense of the world, and for grown-ups who want to remember the magic and mayhem of childhood’.

Author Information

Shagufta K. Iqbal is a dyslexic writer who grew up in Bristol and now lives in London, with her husband, her children and stepchildren, her cats and teacups. There are many places she has called a home, but this is by far her favourite one. She writes about place and belonging, because family and community are important to her, whatever that family may look like. She is passionate about sharing poems about all the different kinds of love we hold, and how we build these relationships. Whether it is with Allah, romantic relationships, familial, community, or love of nature, and she always writes about food. She has performed at WOMAD, The V&A, The Tate, The South Bank Centre, and Karachi and Hyderabad Literature Festivals. She has written a collection for grown-ups, Jam Is for Girls, Girls Get Jam. Her children’s stories include Bibi and Rumi, and The Spelling Bee, she has contributed to Spin, and Slam poetry anthologies, and is writing a children’s picture book There Are Cats in the Mosque. Everything in Between is her first full children’s collection. She loves baking, and climbing mountains, (but not at the same time, because the crumbs would just get everywhere)!
