Everyday Christianity: Life Learned Lessons and Observations from an Ordinary Man

Overview

'After all, when the pretense is gone and the microscope applied, we are all just ordinary people trying to live out Christianity every day.' As a young man, Kent 'Grumpy' Smith had always been successful. However, when his golf store business failed, he experienced a series of events that ultimately led him into a deep depression. In the fall of 2004, Kent had just begun his recovery from depression and felt the need to share his experiences with others who might be affected by the disease. The result was Everyday Christianity, a book based on a 14-week Bible class that Kent taught at his church in Plano, Texas. Everyday Christianity is not just a book about recovery; it also covers topics such as emotion in worship, service, loneliness, integrity, control, failure, trust in the Lord, and true peace. The lessons provided in this book are the open-heart feelings of a man who is trying to grow in the love of the Lord and service to others. His honesty is apparent on each page as he reveals his weaknesses, failures, and triumphs in a way that will have you wanting to apply what you are reading to your life. Grumpy describes himself as 'just an ordinary man.' He doesn't have a Ph.D, and he hasn't served as a minister for 30 years. He is a wonderful storyteller who captivates his listeners with his experiences that have taught him a few things about living for God and others. Grumpy and his wife, Paula, live in Frisco, Texas, where he is a real-estate agent and professional speaker. The couple has two married children and two grandchildren.
