Karina Hamalainen has been a writer and an editor of Scholastic's science and math magazines for a decade. Today, she is the editorial director of Scholastic MATH, a magazine that connects current events to the math that students are learning in middle school. She's written six nonfiction books and many articles about everything from the science of Star Trek to the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
