Thetreatment for NIDDM concentrates on increasing insulin sensitivity, whereas thetreatment for IDDM concentrates on increasing insulin levels or imitating the effects ofinsulin. There are many techniques to control blood sugar levels, including reducingthe digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, increasing the uptake of glucose, inhibiting the metabolism of carbohydrates, and reducing gluconeogenesis.
