The reader is challenged to investigate - like a detective, you must sift through different accounts and reach your own understanding. People on both sides of the conflict believed that their actions were correct and justifiable. Readers will see actual letters from the governor, complaints from angry miners, as well as diaries and newspaper articles. This is not a book you can read while watching television. Hugh Dolan, a storyteller with a keen interest in Australian history, has a unique ability to connect with young readers and even non-readers. His bestselling factual comics, packed with illustrations and driven by story, include Gallipoli: The Landing and Reg Saunders Indigenous Officer, which won Best in Category for Year 7, Australian Curriculum awarded by the Australian Educational Publishers Association. Hugh himself is the first to admit that at school he had difficulties reading but comic books like Asterix the Gaul and Tin Tin got him to first venture into a library.
