Overview

16-year-old Eugene Guymon's kin have all disappeared on the Aspire, Uncle Raymond's interstellar trader. The ship is not responding to the hails from Endeavor, the ship Eugene, Samantha, and Eliza are on. Aspire has dropped from the galaxy without a trace. A hint of what might have happened to the unlucky ship comes from an unlikely source: a pirate who appears unhinged after capture and the destruction of his ship. Just the mention of the 'Kraken' drives him over the edge. Unlikely as his ravings appear, there might be some truth to them. Eugene chases the slim lead that he has with the help of his friends and the rest of his family on the Bangor, one of the ships of the Interstellar Transport Corporation's fleet, into an unknown system with an unknown foe. No one has ever survived a meeting with the Kraken. Will the people of the Bangor and Aspire be the first, or will they perish as all those before have?
