Raymond Briggs estudió en la Wimbledon School of Art y la Slade School of Art y, aunque comenzó trabajando en publicidad, pronto empezó a ganar notoriedad como ilustrador. Es el autor de los aclamados libros infantiles El muñeco de nieve y Papá Noel. Además de ilustrar libros para numerosos autores, su obra se ha traducido a varios idiomas y se ha adaptado a películas, obras de teatro y animación para televisión.
