OverviewThis work consists of four essays on the economy of the sea and tourism, using as an integrating element a commodity that does not exist in mainland Portugal, due to lack of legislation, known as fishing-tourism, and the Alto Minho coastline as a field of study. The research begins by looking at the ontological aspects of the recent concept and its importance on the European stage; it goes on to outline an explanatory theory based on the study of the Azorean case; an analysis of the hypothetical Pesca-turismo market: probabilistic behavior of supply and demand through the study of perceptions about its sustainability and contribution to tourism and regional development; ending with the construction of a proposal for a probabilistic model that measures the overall probability of success of Pesca-turismo. This is basically an exploratory study of the economic impact on fishing communities and tourism, assessing the relevance to the economy by building an exploratory model for hypothetically evaluating the economic merit measured by the probability of success.
