Overview

In August of 2021 the United States of America let down the people of Afghanistan when they chaotically withdrew all troops from the country, allowing the Taliban to regain control after 20 years. This story highlights how a group of retired and non-active veterans were able to organize ground tactics and evacuation schemes to aid the families of the interpreters who supported them during this conflict. It highlights how they personally assisted 14 Afghan men, women, and children in escaping just hours before the bomb exploded at the Afghan airport. Although they did not succeed with every evacuation attempt, they were able to accomplish more from their efforts than the government did. These brave men and woman sacrificed everything to help America and were told that the United States would take care of them when the time came. They were there for us, and we were there for them.
