OverviewEquine Electro-Acupressure is a must have DIY book for all competitive equestrians who are dedicated to enhancing their horse's health and maximizing their horse's athletic potential. This book teaches horsemen and women how to perform Equine Electro-Acupressure treatments on their own horses. Developed by Equine Performance Consultant, Donald Doran, the techniques presented in Equine Electro-Acupressure are a reflection of Doran's 40+ years of hands-on experience working with a broad spectrum of equine athletes ranging from Kentucky Derby winners to Olympic contenders. Equine Electro-Acupressure is a hybrid equine bodywork modality that combines modern science and technology with ancient knowledge of massage, energy meridians and acupoints. The net effect is a fast, effective method of getting a horse out of muscular pain and maximizing her/her athletic performance without the use of drugs, surgery or invasive procedures. In the fiercely competitive world of equine sports, properly fitting equipment, cross training and frequent equine bodywork often make the difference between bringing home the prize money or coming home empty-handed. However, for many horse owners, regularly scheduled equine bodywork is often limited due to lack of availability and/or financial constraints. This book empowers motivated horse owners with the ability to use this new, revolutionary form of equine bodywork for the benefit of their own horses on a regular, cost-effective basis. Step by step instructions teach equestrians how to use a TENS unit to provide their horses with muscle and acupoint stimulation previously only available through a professional acupuncture session. The book provides treatment plans, full color photographs and location descriptions of muscle points and acupoints used to treat the following common problem areas in the performance horse: Upper and Lower Neck, Mid and Lower Back, Shoulders, Hindquarters, Hamstrings, Quadriceps and Stifles. When the stakes are high, Doran relies on Equine Electro-Acupressure in his own practice to treat Olympic competitors and championship horses. Doran offers training in this modality to horsemen and women as part of the Equine Sports Therapy course curriculum at Animal Dynamics. Mr. Doran is a visionary and founding father of Equine Sports Massage Therapy and Training. Mr. Doran's career in the thoroughbred racing industry began during the Decade of Champions (1970 - 1980). Mr. Doran was educated and inspired by trainers of great race horses such as: Secretariat, Seattle Slw, Affirmed, Alydar, Shuvee, Ruffian and Forego. Mr. Doran served in the United State Marine Corps form 1972-1975. While stationed in Japan, Mr. Doran learned the fundamentals of the healing art of massage. In 1979, Mr. Doran became a partner and general manage of Broadlands Farm, a major thoroughbred breeding, foaling and rehabilitation facility. At Broadlands, over a 10 year period, Mr. Doran cared for hundreds of thoroughbreds sent in for rehabiliation of muscular and assorted injuries. Mr. Doran's care program helped a majority of these horses recover and return to productive careers. Mr. Doran found that the hands-on massage techniques which he incorporated into his equine rehabilitation program had the greatest positive effect on the healing process for the horses. Mr. Doran's vision was to develop specific sports massage techniques for equine athletes. To increase his knowledge and skills in the healing arts, in 1989, Mr. Doran attended the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville, FL and became a licensed human massage therapist and certified human sports massage therapist. As a human sports massage therapist, Mr. Doran performed ground breaking work by establishing the University of Florida's first massage program for the swim and track teams. Through independent research and his in-depth understanding of the horse, Mr. Doran correlated human and equine athletic injuries and developed a specialized protocol for the evaluation and treatment of equine muscular problems. In 1993, Mr. Doran designed, developed and launched the world's first Equine Sports Massage Training Program. Since then many have followed in Mr. Doran's footsteps. Mr. Doran's focus is on the horse. Through his educational programs and equine performance consulting practice, it is Mr. Doran's personal mandate to raise awareness and shift paradigms in the equine industry in order to empower horsemen with relevant information and skills that allow them to achieve maximum success, performance and personal fulfillment with their horses.
