OverviewThis book provides a detailed overview of the significance of epigenetic regulation as an important mechanism underlying the regulation of gene expression in plants. It highlights the role played by epigenetic mechanisms in the overall physiology of plants and how these mechanisms can improve quality traits by conferring tolerance and resistance against abiotic and biotic stresses. The book is organized into four distinct sections, beginning with an introduction to the subject and a generalized discussion on the different epigenetic markers. Chapters then go on to discuss epigenetic responses in model plants including Arabidopsis, rice and cereal crops, and the role epigenetics plays in controlling physiological processes and protection against various forms of stress. The volume introduces readers to the application of epigenetics, providing them with a clear road map to undergo qualitative and quantitative improvement of plant species to enhance productivity and performance. This can be achieved from a better understanding of the different components of epigenetic machinery and chromatin accessibility to transcription factors that regulate the expression of concerned genes. This is an essential read for researchers and scientists working in the fields of plant physiology, molecular biology and biotechnology, as well as related disciplines of biochemistry, agricultural science and botany. It benefits university libraries and research institutes dealing with epigenetics and their applications to improve plant growth, development and quality, and in overcoming different stresses.
