OverviewNosema spp. is a major parasitic disease of honey bees (Apis mellifera), caused by microsporidia of the genus Nosema, and represents a major constraint on colony health and the sustainability of beekeeping. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of Nosema spp. in Apis mellifera in Algeria, and to analyze the comparative susceptibility of two local breeds, Apis mellifera intermissa and Apis mellifera sahariensis. The results show a significant presence of nosema in the colonies studied, with variations in prevalence between breeds and regions. The differences observed suggest variable susceptibility to nosema, probably influenced by genetic and environmental factors. This work contributes to a better understanding of the health of honey bees in Algeria, and provides useful scientific elements for sanitary management.
