A former senior chemist inprocess development at Ciba-Geigy, he is also a contributing authorto the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, alsopublished by Wiley. HAROLD S. FREEMAN is the Ciba-Geigy Professor of Dyestuff Chemistryin the Department of Textile Chemistry, Science, and Engineering atNorth Carolina State University. An expert on designing syntheticdyes based on toxicological considerations, he has published morethan 100 papers on various aspects of dyestuff chemistry.
