Enhancing Quality in Conference Interpreting

Overview

Enhancing quality in conference interpreting is essential in spaces where multilingual communication supports diplomacy, international business, and global collaboration. As conferences grow in complexity and diversity, the demand for high-quality interpreting services increases. Ensuring interpretation excellence requires a multifaceted approach, combining rigorous training, professional standards, and the use of technology. Interpreter competence, subject-matter expertise, and ethical conduct are foundational, while supportive working conditions and ongoing professional development contribute to improved performance. Emerging technologies also present opportunities and challenges that must be carefully managed. By prioritizing quality, stakeholders can ensure conference interpreting facilitates clear, accurate, and inclusive communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Enhancing Quality in Conference Interpreting explores the fundamentals of conference interpreting, its evolution, and the roles of various stakeholders. It delves into the expectations of users, the challenges faced by interpreters, and the constraints encountered by clients, while addressing training needs, the impact of AI, policy recommendations, and strategies for elevating the quality of conference interpreting. This book covers topics such as ethics and law, pedagogy, and language and linguistics, and is a useful resource for translators and interpreters, business owners, policymakers, government officials, educators, academicians, researchers, and scientists.
