"What every tourist and immigrant in this city has in common is Los Angeles itself. This textbook aims to engage English language learners in meaningful communication through exploration and contemplation of what made this vibrant city what it is today. In my more than thirty years of teaching English language learners, both here and abroad, I have understood that adults need clear explanations of sentence structure and dynamic activities to stimulate conversation. In addition, they need to be confronted with ideas that will trigger critical thinking.
