OverviewThis book is written mainly for students to learn (American) English as a second language (ESL). It provides a new way to learn English or ESL. This book has collected many basic English topics to help students to learn English. It is author's hope that reader can use this book to learn and speak English easier and faster. This book has ten chapters and two appendixes. Chapter 1 presents how to write English alphabets and words. Chapter 2 discusses pronunciation. Chapter 3 discusses English grammar of nine types of words (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, article, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection) and how to use them. Chapter 4 discusses English grammar of sentence- phrase, clause, sentence. Chapter 5 presents commonly used vocabulary. Chapter 6 presents common English conversation of different topics. Chapter 7 presents a more detailed discussion of some commonly used words. Chapter 8 discusses how to write declarative, interrogative, and imperative sentences. Chapter 9 presents commonly used idioms. Chapter 10 discusses how to use punctuation. Appendix I is an irregular verb table. He has a B.S. degree from Tunghai University (Taiwan, China; 1966), a M.S degree from University of Massachusetts (1969), and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas at Austin (1975); all in Chemical Engineering. He participated in part time ESL teaching since 1995. After he retired in Jan. 2011, he spent more time in ESL teaching and writing teaching material.
