OverviewShark Trackers Hard work, no pay and embarrassing conditions could not deter a young Woods Hole artist from signing on as the ship's mechanic to his first oceanographic expedition out to the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Our hero Calvin Landry finds himself seasick, over his head in science, and head over heels for a member of the scientific crew, biologist Dr. Jonelle Kelly, an alluring, able-bodied, accomplished shark tracker. Science turns to romance, adventure, and heroic rescue. Endless Sun-Filled Days is a fictional memoir of E.K. King's first shark tracking cruise with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientist Dr. Frank Carey, who was a pioneer in acoustic fish tracking and considered a world's authority on the physiology, behavior, and ecology of the great migrating fishes of the sea-among them tuna, sharks, and swordfish. In 1979 Dr. Carey recorded the first internal body temperature measurements of the great white shark. King boarded the 50-foot motor-sailer Bird of Passage to assist with seagoing operations in the tracking of sharks off the coast of New England. Working with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution biologist Dr. Frank Carey, a pioneer in marine acoustic research, he performed his duties while suffering days of seasickness, night watches, the unpleasantness of storms, and the aromatic persistence of chum. Hardships aside he continued working with Dr. Carey for the next seven years on an assortment of vessels including the Polish North Sea trawler Wieczno of Gdynia Poland. He has traveled the earth's oceans working as a master research technician in physical oceanography for Battelle Ocean Sciences and as a benthic mercenary for the WHOI Long Core team. An artist for most of his life, he paints and lives in Falmouth, Massachusetts with his wife Frances, his son Owen, a canary named Bo, and their black lab Maggie. This is his first novel.
