OverviewAn Encounter with Sybil Ludington, is the first in the Travels Through Time Revolutionary War Adventure series of books. In this adventure, Robert and Violet build a time machine with Lego bricks in their home in the Historic Hudson Valley of New York. They take their first journey back through time to the Revolutionary War. They meet a number of actual historical characters involved on both sides of British General William Howe's plan to end the Revolutionary War by taking control of the Hudson River and dividing the colonies in half. That plan started with capturing the Continental Army's supplies, which had secretly been moved to Danbury, Connecticut. Howe sent a force of some 2,000 British Soldiers and Loyalists to capture the supplies at Danbury. They sailed from New York City to Compo Beach in Norwalk, Connecticut (That beach is now part of Westport). The Crown Forces marched trhough Redding and Bethel then entered Danbury. They defeated the defenders and set the city on fire. The Continental Soliders in Danbury sent a Call to Arms to the surrounding area. One messenger was sent to Col. Henry Ludingon, Commander of the 7th Dutchess County Milita. His daughter Sybil Ludington rode 40 miles on that cold, rainy night to call out here father's troops. Robert and Violet arrive before those events and meet Sybil and her family. They also meet Enoch Crobsy the spy and Abraham Nimham of the Wappinger Tribe who was the Captain of what was called the Indian Regiment. They also meet Jacob and Joseph Angevine freed slaves who help in the Revollution. They also meet Jesse Ganong, who's father has Loyalist leanings. Robert and Violet go back in time and witness events a few times. They see a mob of Loyalists try to capture Sybil's father and see her special plan put in action, which stopped the Loyalists. They go back another time and try to see Sybil make her famous ride but end up going with Col. Ludington and his men to Ridgefield and then to Compo Beach where they witness a battle.
