Reviews

Empowering Young Readers does a masterful job describing a common education practice, shared reading. The authors not only explain its importance for building children's language skills, but they also provide readers with a treasure trove of activities to try out in their home, classroom, or library. A thoughtful selection of children's books is used to illustrate dialogic reading and explicit vocabulary instruction and provides readers with specific guidance to ensure that their instruction is evidence-based, engaging, and impactful. A must-read for anyone who interacts with young children.--Margie Gillis, president, Literacy How Inc. The dialogic reading approach in Empowering Young Readers: Dialogic Reading with Integrated Vocabulary Enrichment is a powerful reading intervention for children that need to improve and practice vocabulary, language, and comprehension. Dina Moore and Cheryl C. Durwin make the strategy accessible for teachers, parents, and childcare providers with clear directions and examples.--Stacie D'Antonio, principal, Ridge Hill Elementary School
