Author Information

Athanasios Alexiou has a BSc in Applied Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics Algorithms and Mathematical Modeling in Biology, and a two-year Postdoc Research Fellowship in Neuroinformatics Applications from the Ionian University. He currently collaborates with research teams from King Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia) and the University of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates). He also serves as a Faculty Member at the Department of Science and Engineering at the Novel Global Community Education Foundation (Educational platform registered in Australia) and a senior researcher at the AFNP Med Company in Austria. Dr. Alexiou's current research interest falls into Computational Biomedicine. It focuses on developing novel mathematical models and algorithms in neurodegenerative diseases, prognostic Bayesian tools for Alzheimer's disease, identifying molecular mechanisms of infectious diseases, especially the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and the ethical implications of scientific research. He authorizes approximately 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers/chapters/books in high-impact publications and 4 patents. Dr. Sgantzos is an Associate Professor in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Thessaly. He is the President of the Hellenic Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and a board member of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM). He is the President of the Classification Committee of the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation, a Classifier from IWBF for Greece and a Member of the Hellenic Society of Sports and Medicine executive committee. He has supervised 6 doctoral theses and is a member of the advisory committee in 14 other doctoral theses; he has over 50 Lectures at national and international congresses and has published more than 140 scientific papers.
