Reviews

Everyone should learn about the ravages of Alzheimer's and dementia. It was heartwarming to read about Samantha's dedication to her grandma Mary when she started struggling with Alzheimer's. Samantha decided to provide Mary with the best possible help. Navigating the waters of Alzheimer's and dementia requires patience, love, and understanding. It's essential to remain informed and equipped with the right strategies. Being informed empowers caregivers to offer the best care possible, enhancing the patient's quality of life. Amidst the challenges, Samantha discovered that caregiving was not just about providing physical and emotional support. It was also about cherishing the shared moments and finding joy in the mutual recollection of those moments. One of Samantha's most treasured moments was when she played Mary's favorite song. Though Mary couldn't remember Samantha's name, she hummed along to the melody. Mary's eyes lit up with recognition. That's when Samantha realized that while memories might fade, emotions and feelings lingered. The author reiterates throughout the book that maintaining connections with our loved ones as they journey through Alzheimer's is paramount. Chapter four dedicates itself entirely to this aspect of caregiving. The section of Chapter 9 dedicated to grandchildren and caregiving is my favorite part of the book. Grandkids hold a special place in the care process. They see life through a lens of wonder and curiosity. Heartfelt and honest description of living with alzheimers or dementia This book is well-written and a great resource for family members living with someone suffering from dementia. It will also be helpful for home health aides and other professionals working with Alzheimer or dementia patients. She first defines both and explains symptoms. We learn that this is a difficult journey for caregivers as well and she reminds us about the value of self-care for both. She then offers strategies for caregivers to help their loved ones. She delivers a decent amount of common sense advice for the caregiver that almost anyone in many circumstances can benefit from. In other words, there are common threads that bind caregivers together. I also feel that the personal stories were also well done. Overall, a great learning experience. brilliant book with a great inside I was grateful that this book is written in less academic terms. Meaning I can understand more clearly in my way. I particularly liked the guidance it provided on how to handle the situations. A must have guide. Alzheimer's and Dementia is a must have guide to assist you through the steps of navigating this terrrible disease. I wish it was available when my husband was first diagnosed six years ago. It is written simply and sensitively and will answer many of your questions and concerns. I highly recommend.
