Overview

This paper presents a diagnosis of the area of job creation in the Brazilian municipality of Osório, located on the northern coast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The aim of this study was to contribute to the generation of employment and income in Osório, through an analysis of the actions carried out by the municipal government aimed at generating employment and income, in the light of the literature, and through suggestions for actions in this area. This study found that the municipal government has a variety of programs and actions aimed at generating employment and income, which have great potential to have a positive impact on the area, but it was found that some deficiencies may be interfering with the success of these actions. Among the shortcomings pointed out, the most important are the lack of an economic development plan for the municipality, the lack of publicity for incentives for entrepreneurship, the lack of actions to generate jobs with higher incomes, and the poor use of the municipality's tourist potential.
