Dr Mandy Brimble is an Emerita Reader in Children and Young People’s Nursing at Cardiff University School of Healthcare Sciences and Senior Fellow of Advance HE. She is a registered children's nurse and health visitor. She has worked in a range of clinical settings and was lead practitioner for education and research at Ty Hafan children's hospice, where she now serves as a member of their Clinical Governance Committee. She has worked in nurse education since 2003 and has undertaken many roles at Cardiff University School of Healthcare Sciences, including Director for Undergraduate Studies with responsibility for 2,000 students registered on 9 undergraduate programmes across nursing and allied health professions. Her publication profile encompasses a wide range of professional journals and joint editorship of 'Nursing Care of Children and Young People with Long-Term Conditions (Brimble & McNee, 2021). She has served as Associate Editor for the Community Practitioner Journal and for the Journal of Child Health Care which has an international readership. She chaired the All-Wales Paediatric Palliative Care Education and Training group for a number of years and is a member of the International Children’s Palliative Care Network and the International Family Nursing Association. Her research interests include children’s palliative care focusing on children’s hospices, emotional labour and emotional intelligence. Her interest in emotional and social intelligence stems from her doctoral work examining emotional labour and professional integrity in children’s hospices.
