Overview

EMC Poetry Playlist is an anthology of approximately 130 contemporary poems for 11-16 year olds. The collection is designed to excite students’ interest in reading, writing and talking about poems – both in the classroom and beyond. The anthology has diversity at its heart – a diversity of voices, identities, experiences and approaches. Inside you’ll find poems which engage, challenge, puzzle, excite and provoke. These are poems which open up the world of poetry to young people. As well as poems selected by EMC, the anthology includes a selection of ‘poets’ playlists’ submitted by poets such as Jacob Sam-La Rose, Hollie McNish, Peter Kahn, Daljit Nagra and Moniza Alvi. Poets include: Maya Angelou, Raymond Antrobus, Simon Armitage, Caroline Bird, Valerie Bloom, Aisha Mango Borja, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Marianne Chan, Chen Chen, Franny Choi, Alfonso D’Aquino, Brennig Davies, Kwame Dawes, Imtiaz Dharker, Helen Dunmore, Jonathan Edwards, Safia Elhillo, Caleb Femi, Choman Hardi, Kathleen Jamie, Jackie Kay, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Ava Leavell Haymon, Ada Limón, Hannah Lowe, Robert Macfarlane, Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan, Andrew McMillan, Hollie McNish, Daljit Nagra, Sharon Olds, Alice Oswald, Don Patterson, Kira Pelowitz, Jacob Polley, Vidyan Ravinthiran, Roger Robinson, Michael Rosen, Jacob Sam-La Rose, Joshua Seigal, Naomi Shihab Nye, Warsan Shire, Idrissa Simmonds, Lemn Sissay, Danez Smith, George Szirtes, Lucy Thynne, Kate Wakeling, Derek Walcott, Luke Wright, Fathima Zahra
