As a retired gerontologist, I have spent decades dedicated to studying the complexities of aging and advocating for a society that respects and values the wisdom of its elder members. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with countless individuals, families, and communities, helping to shape policies and programs aimed at improving the quality of life for older adults. Yet, as I pen these words, I find myself on a personal journey that transforms me from an aging service provider to an aging services consumer. This book contains reflections, thoughts and lived experiences throughout this journey from provider to consumer.

Author Information

Tom Stofac is a retired gerontologist with more than four decades of experience in aging services leadership. Throughout his career, he led healthcare and senior living organizations, advocated for dignity-centered care, and worked alongside families navigating later life. Now writing from the lived experience of aging himself, Stofac reflects on what changes when the professional becomes the consumer-and how perspective shifts from managing aging to inhabiting it. He lives with his wife, Cathy, and two dogs, Prince and Jake. Tom continues to speak and write about choice, partnership, and the evolving journey of aging.
