Elvis - Supertrip USA '74 and Desert Storm

Overview

'ELVIS - SuperTrip USA '74 and Desert Storm' is an A5 format, 370 page soft cover published by Darrin Lee Memmer in honour of the lovely Anne E. Nixon. Unprecedented knowledge and analysis of the British Fan Club's SuperTrip USA '74 (the 1974 Las Vegas Hilton -Summer Festival-) is via contemporaneous articles, special reports, etc. by Rocky Barra, Mark Tan, Lila-Jean Morris, Chantal Dambremont, Angie Sheering, Pat Barrs and Kerstin Ede. They were t-h-e-r-e! Folks online have portrayed the author as wearing rose-coloured glasses and attempting to whitewash events to protect ELVIS-his hero. So what to make of the following 10 (ten!!) eyewitness accounts, including James Burton? -Desert Storm- - The Highlight Of The Season 1. Annie Bentley: -He had a beautiful presence of being such a wonderful person. Elvis did not look - and I'm not a medical professional - but he certainly didn't look drugged to me. He was not drugged up to my eyes. He was not strung out. What they're saying is lies. Absolute pure lies.- 2. Anne E. Nixon: -What an amazing show, in a season of unique shows. It had lasted just 100 minutes and it was the best show that I ever saw. I still get shivers up my spine when I recall those '74 shows, especially the Karate routines. What a showman Elvis was!- 3. May Mann: -Elvis sang his heart out. In the lobby everyone stood around and talked about it: talked about his now new way - his openness, his renewed vitality, the happiness he radiates.- 4. Dennis Berry: -I walked away from the showroom in a daze. Totally gobsmacked. I had just witnessed the performance of a lifetime and realised never in my life would I see a live show to top the one Elvis just gave. Everybody in the showroom was totally entertained by a man whose only desire was to do just that, entertain. And in return, we in the audience gave Elvis a boost of adrenalin. So, if you want to call adrenalin a drug, then that is what Elvis was on during Desert Storm. And that's all he was on. I can assure you of that!- 5. Keith Alverson: -His eyes. There was a fire in his eyes when he gave that speech about drugs. I'll never forget his eyes. And I never thought about drugs once. It was a very good show.- 6. James Burton: -It was a fantastic show.- 7. Wanda June Hill: -Elvis took his anger out in his music and did some great stuff! He was in top form physically, doing Karate, perfectly, keeping his balance in some hard moves. And he wasn't 'strung out' on anything but his disgust and anger at the gossip. Elvis was clear eyed, level headed and having fun. No one who was in that audience would say that he was 'drugged out, stoned, crazy or raving.' Elvis was expressing his thoughts and was angry and had every right to be feeling that way.- 8. Katherine: -You know, he was always happy when Lisa was in the audience. I have to say, this show wasn't the first time I saw him use the stage to convey personal messages. He had done it before a number of times, but nevertheless, Elvis gave a phenomenal performance.- 9. Starla (as relayed by her mother): -Starla was 14 when she heard him tear into the hotel employees, etc. and she cheered his speech-along with many other people. My daughter was proud of Elvis for standing up for himself 'finally' and not just being a 'rug for everybody' and she said that 'turning the other cheek' didn't always work.- 10. W. A. Harbinson: -The midnight show was one of the most remarkable I have ever seen on stage. The performance was just out of this world. Some singing indeed! All in all, he was mean, moody, witty and magnificent-in fact everything his legend says he should be.- DEDICATION This book is dedicated to Dennis Berry and Annie Bentley. Thank you, both, for your trust and eagerness to TCB for ELVIS by sharing the Truth about the evening of Sept. 2nd 1974. Special thanks to Darren Cavanagh, Keith Alverson, Todd Slaughter and Shaun Livesey for their major contributions.
