... Hagit and Or Oron's latest adventure with Elphie is filled with many lessons about manners and feeling good about yourself. Both the story and the illustrations complemented each other beautifully, bringing the tale to life in a full burst of color. I loved the added special touch of having pictures on Elphie's wall which depict earlier Elphie books. While trick-or-treating together, Phante quickly becomes jealous that the neighborhood people seem to like Elphie's costume better than they like hers and, as a result, she gets angry at Elphie and blames him. Phante's loud announcement to each house that she is a pirate, has a great costume, and wants their sweets is not met well by the people in the homes they visit, yet Elphie quietly waits and answers questions about what his costume is meant to be. Elphie Goes Trick or Treating is a lesson in humbleness, quiet confidence, and friendship. I recommend this book to children between the ages of 5 and 10 in the hopes that they learn how to be kind, not only to others but also to themselves. Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite
