Jennie was born in South Africa and emigrated to The United States with her husband and two children. She is a graduate of the University of South Africa and later earned a master's degree and a specialist degree at Piedmont College. She spent many years as a teacher serving children who were identified as gifted. Jennie now spends her time as a writer. Although, her children are now adults, the family remains a close knit one, often sharing many travelling adventures.
