It puts into 'kid terms'' how an allergic reaction feels and the steps that can be taken during an allergy attack. I also really appreciate the page at the back showing alternatives to common allergens. Apart from the allergies - this is a really cute story!!! The illustrations fit right in with the story too - vivid colors, cute baby elephant and family. The Super Powers nose is a fun touch! If you have someone with allergies in the family, I would totally recommend getting this as a read-aloud to make allergies less scary to kids AND give them some practical information on what to do during a reaction. Author Information

Mario is a childcare program director and first-time author living in the Netherlands. His debut children's book, ELIFANT and His Super Power Nose, was inspired by his youngest son, Elijah, who experienced his first food allergy reaction as a baby during a family vacation. With over a decade of experience working as a childcare program director, Mario has supported children with a wide range of special needs, including food allergies, autoimmune disorders, and neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism. He primarily works with school-age children between 5 and 11 years old but also has extensive experience with preschoolers and toddlers. His hands-on work has given him deep insight into the daily realities, emotions, and resilience of children facing health and developmental challenges. Elijah's early years included medical challenges-from food allergies and gluten sensitivity to open-heart surgery, but also incredible resilience, therapy, and the love of family. Through these experiences, Mario saw how important it is to give children stories that help them make sense of what feels frightening.
