Overview

Some people are born to move, they live with a rhythm inside their bones that causes them to break out in dance or tap a long to a beat- whenever and wherever it finds them. That's Eli. Eli's beat has been with him since birth. Swaying before crawling, dancing before walking, the rhythm flows through E like a beat to its own melody. ELI AND THE BEAT celebrates the world of music and movement through the heart of Eli and the inspiration of the Black men in entertainment that have paved the way. Whether tapping along with Savion, or top-rocking to Don't Sweat the Technique, readers are taken on a lyrical journey that inspires them to find their own inner beat.

Author Information

Shannon Griffin is a wife, mother, educator, public speaker, activist, and author (Black Man: A Superhero Story) with a focused passion for diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist education. She hopes to transform student, teacher, and community relationships by providing resources and support for equitable and justice-centered teaching, encouraging conversations around tough topics, and engaging in social activism. As a lifelong book lover and mother of four biracial boys, Griffin recognizes the power of positive representation and diversity in literature. In 2020, she founded Literally Cultured, a blog and website that centers these ideals and highlights the power that stories have to change the world. A longtime lover of video games, comic art, and all things animated, Marcus dedicated his young artistic years to fine tuning his illustration muscles by way of freelancing. Over eighteen plus years later, he's catching his stride and still ever growing in hopes of being a well-rounded illustrator. Stationed in Atlanta, GA, he spends most of his time toiling away late nights on everything from illustrating comic art, fan art, children's books, to random character commissions and more. A proud father of two, he somehow manages to steal enough time to create loads of artwork and check homework. He's excited about the direction his comic properties are heading in and looks forward to creating more forms of visual entertainment and stories to enjoy.
