He received his PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University in 1972, became a certified industrial hygienist in 1979, and is authorized to conduct 10- and 30-hour OSHA courses as an OSHA Construction Outreach Trainer. Dr. McCann primarily does research on falls and electrocutions in construction, and has given presentations at the Construction Safety Council Annual Conference and other construction safety conferences, and at safety professional conferences. He has conducted training at OSHA 500 courses and helped develop and conduct training for construction workers at the World Trade Center. Dr. McCann was formerly NYS Health and Safety Director for the Communications Workers of America, Senior Associate Editor of the 4th edition of the International Labor Organizations Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety, and, from 1978 to 1996, Executive Director of the Center for Safety in the Arts. Mr. Paine is the former President and CEO of The SINCO Group, Inc., serving in that position for 22 years from 1974 to 1996, during which time he successfully directed the design, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of a broad spectrum of internationally recognized fall protection and other safety systems and equipment for the construction industry. He has worked with many industrial rack and conveyor manufacturers in industrial plants and warehouses throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Paine additionally founded a Union Ironworker Construction Company, which operated throughout the United States, doing installation of fall protection products, specialty rigging, personnel and debris netting systems and other related construction activities. Additionally, Mr. Paine was a key player during the negotiated rule making Committee for the OSHA Steel Erection Standard SubPart R, and was a paid expert for OSHA during the SubPart R hearings in Washington, DC. Daniel Paine is a native of Connecticut and received his BA from Union College, Schenectady, New York. He currently resides in Avon, Connecticut.
