OverviewThe master's thesis examines educational elements in the Austrian juvenile prison system and their contribution to the resocialization of young offenders. Juvenile detention is understood not only as a punishment, but also as an educational space in which development and social integration can be promoted. Based on theoretical analyses and interviews with experts, central pedagogical approaches, framework conditions and challenges in facilities such as Gerasdorf and Graz-Jakomini are examined. Effective education is demonstrated above all through stable relationships, everyday living and socio-pedagogical support. Work and educational opportunities strengthen professional skills, personal responsibility and social participation, but are limited by institutional boundaries, lack of resources and hierarchies. Successful resocialization therefore requires pedagogical professionalism, structural reforms and aftercare following imprisonment. The work advocates a close connection between the penal system, social education and social support in order to enable young people to lead a life free of punishment.
