Overview

IR and Raman spectroscopy continue to be the essential and valuable techniques in the elucidation of molecular structure, spectrum-structure identification, qualitative and quantitative analyses, and in process control. The extremely useful Electronic Handbook of Infrared and Raman Spectra of Inorganic Compounds and Organic Salts provides an extremely useful guide for chemists who need both a spectral database and specific routines for spectrum analysis. Containing comprehensive information from the authors' extensive lifetime research, this CD-ROM is an essential reference for industrial and academic researchers and their libraries. With the ability to undertake spectra analog searches, and to assist in identifying unknown entities, analytical chemists, molecular spectroscopists, materials scientists (especially polymer scientists), chemical engineers, environmentalists, geologists, and others involved in analyzing a wide range of inorganic compounds and organic salts will want to keep The Electronic Handbook within easy reach. It is a must for pharmaceutical and chemical companies, as well as for industrial and academic libraries, laboratories, and working groups.

Reviews

@from:Praise for the Print Version This excellent resource on infrared and Raman spectra of a very large number of inorganic compounds and organic salts, including some nonionic inorganic compounds, is especially important since it has a compendium of Raman spectra that is otherwise not available. The first volume contains a well-written discussion of the experimental and theoretical aspects as well as vibrational assignments....An excellent, first-class publication. It should be useful to upper-division undergraduates; graduate students; and researchers and faculty. --W.H. Hohman, Marietta College, Ohio, in CHOICE

Author Information

Richard A. Nyquist has been recognized for his contributions to the field of Spectroscopy and Analytical Chemistry with the following awards: Williams-Wright Award from the Coblentz Society, ANACHEM Award from the Association of Analytical Chemists, V.A. Stenger Award and Water Graf European Award from Dow Chemical Company, and the ASTM Award of Appreciation. He was also named an honorary member of the Coblentz Society, and was a national tour speaker for the Society of Applied Spectroscopy. Nyquist received his B.S. in Chemistry from Augustan College, Rock Island, Illinois, his M.S. from Oklahoma State University, and his Ph.D. from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. He is currently president of Nyquist Associates, and is the author or co-author of over 160 scientific articles including books, book chapters, and patents. Curtis L. Putzig is a Research Leader in the Spectroscopy Group of the Analytical Sciences Laboratory at The Dow Chemical Company. He joined this organization in 1973, and has been the author or co-author of 27 scientific publications. His research interests include the elucidation of molecular structure, polymer characterization, separation sciences, and the computer analysis of spectroscopic data. Putzig received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Wayne State University, and his M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University. M. Anne Leugers is a Research Leader in the Spectroscopy Group of the Analytical Sciences Laboratory at The Dow Chemical Company. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Xavier University, and her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1981. She performed postdoctoral research at Syracuse University and at the University of Arizona before taking a research position in the paper industry studying the material science of paper. She joined the Dow Chemical Company in 1984, where she began working in the area of fiber-optic and Raman spectroscopy. Anne's research interests include application of Raman and fiber-optic spectroscopy to the chemical and morphological characterization of synthetic polymers. Anne is the holder of two U.S. patents, and has filed several other patent disclosures. She has also authored eight publications in the area of high-resolution, laser spectroscopy, and IR spectroscopy reviews.
