Electronic data interchange (EDI) provides an environment wherein the finance, accounting and purchasing functions of an organization are electronically linked in 'real-time, ' allowing instant access to management information. Futhermore, this environment also can be linked to that of vendors, bringing buyers and sellers together in a potentially global electronic marketplace. The book presents discussions of the relationship of EDI to current management information systems and paper methods, the fundamentals of national and international electronic communications, and the necessary hardware and software. Also included are examples of the development and operation of EDI in finance, accounting, strategic planning and banking operations.?-Government Finance Review This book documents the next phase of the continuing revolution in financial communications.
