OverviewIn this publication, we have sought to provide an overview of the state of the art in electricity demand management in Cameroonian commercial buildings and to assess their energy situation. Based on a comprehensive survey conducted among stakeholders (architects, design and project management firms, construction companies, distributors, etc.), we were able to assess the general level of knowledge regarding the principles of electricity demand management and measure the impact of rational energy use on the projected electricity demand of these buildings by 2025 if current practices continue. A simple correlation between historical electricity demand and GDP (Energy Intensity and Elasticity) allowed us to estimate projected growth rates of 2.46% per year, which could exceed 3.55% per year between 2020 and 2025, resulting in electricity demand of around 1,023 GWh if no action is taken. Improving the regulatory framework, raising awareness, training building managers, and establishing a national energy observatory are therefore some potential solutions to the current poor energy situation.
