Reviews

The major section of Johnson's work is an annotated bibliography of material written since 1975 concerning mistreatment in family settings. The multidisciplinary background of the authors is reflected in the selection of books, chapters, articles from both popular and scholarly journals, government documents, and assorted unpublished writings. The lengthy and well-written annotations comment on topic, objective, method, findings, and conclusions. Other sections of the book include an unannotated list of references, a directory of organizations providing services to older persons, and the text of the Model Adult Protective Services Act. An author index and a system of cross-classification by discipline of author, specific subject, and approach give adequate access to the references. The coverage of the literature in this bibliography is more extensive than in [other books]. Johnson's guide is a welcome addition to the bibliography of gerontology. -Choice
