Reviews

This book is a most important addition to the limited history of construction of the Chihuahua al Pacifico railroad with vital and accurate information on place names and other side-bars that add much to the telling. The excellent photographs come from the author's private collection and were taken by his father a photo-journalist. It is a treat to see them instead of the more common photos that are frequently reprinted time and time again. - D. Rhodes Sierra resident .. .every railroad buff will love Burgess' book, but it may have more technical and historical detail than will interest the average reader. It is a good book for skimming if you are planning to travel the railroad, and has many fascinating pieces of trivia. - atravelerslibrary.com How in the world could anyone build a railroad through this country? How could anyone even believe such a feat would be possible? Burgess calls it the impossible dream, and dedicates the book to the principal dreamer, Mexican engineer Francisco M. Togno, who died in 1991. - Wally Gordon, _The Independent_
