El Pasado: Shadows of the First-Quarter Moon

Overview

The past doesn't just haunt you-it waits for you. In the art capital of Angono, a phantom street named El Pasado appears only during the first quarter moon. When Diego, a gifted but lost artist, follows a shimmering trail into this 18th-century trap, he discovers a gallery housing a portrait that is hauntingly alive. As the moon wanes, the street begins to dissolve, threatening to erase Diego and his childhood friend, Claire, from existence. But they aren't alone in this trial. Claire's grandfather, the mystic Lolo Severino, has orchestrated this supernatural gauntlet to force a truth to the surface. To survive the ""Ink-Wraith"" and the portrait's curse, Claire must confront her most dangerous secret: her hidden love for the man she is trying to save. In a race against the lunar cycle, they must decide if they are the masters of their own destiny, or just characters in an ancient, oil-painted tragedy.

Author Information

Berns Pen writes literary and speculative fiction that explores belief, power, and the fragile line between faith and control. His stories dive into philosophical questions about morality, identity, and systems that shape human behavior-often placing ordinary people inside extraordinary moral dilemmas. Blending symbolism, realism, and speculative thought, his work speaks to readers who enjoy fiction that challenges assumptions rather than offering easy answers. When not writing, he explores ideas at the intersection of spirituality, psychology, and human resilience.
