Samaniego taught for four years at Utah State University before going to the University of California at Davis, where he was coordinator of the first-year Spanish program and supervisor of teaching assistants for 24 years. He also served as assistant director of several Foreign Language Competency projects for the Los Angeles and San Francisco Unified School Districts, and for the Santa Clara and Sacramento County Offices of Education. In addition, he was a member of the steering committee of the California Foreign Language Teacher Preparation Project and on the California Foreign Language Project Policy Board. During his time at the University of California, Davis, he was frequently asked to conduct in-service workshops for schools and universities across the country. He earned his B.A. degree at New Mexico State University and completed his graduate work at the University of Iowa. Nelson Rojas is professor emeritus of Spanish and French at the University of Nevada, Reno. His principal areas of academic research are Spanish linguistics and contemporary Latin American poetry. During his time at University of Nevada, Reno, he delivered many conference papers and published articles in his areas of interest. He received his Ph.D. in romance linguistics from the University of Washington. Francisco Rodríguez Nogales is the department chair of Spanish and a professor in the School of Modern Languages at Santa Barbara City College. He specializes in the use of technology in foreign-language teaching and online instruction. He also has developed several Spanish assessment and placement tools. Born in Pedrera (Seville), Spain, he holds a B.A. from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, an M.A. from San Francisco State University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
