OverviewPrince Johann Adam Andreas von Liechtenstein (1657-1712) was one of the defining personalities at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Equipped with special economic skills and benefited from the economic boom of the time, Johann Adam Andreas increased his income and was soon considered one of the richest princes of his time. In a clever way to distinguish it from the Viennese court, Johann Adam Andreas saw his main task in the constant increase in property. As the builder of the Liechtenstein palaces in Bankgasse and Roßau, Johann Adam Andreas competed with his friend, Prince Eugene of Savoy-Carignan. Prince Johann Adam Andreas achieved lasting importance through the acquisition of the imperial-free dominions Schellenberg and Vaduz. In doing so, he created the basis for today's sovereign Principality of Liechtenstein.
