OverviewThis work presents a brief summary of a 16-Day, simulated mission to the Red Planet Mars, conducted in the Spring of 1969 only a few months before the Apollo 11 successful mission to first land humans on the Moon. Here a group of High School students from Anniston, Alabama used the Apollo 8 mission, which first orbited men around the Moon, as a template for a similar mission to Mars. Conducted on school property with full cooperation of school faculty and staff, this expanded 30+ student science project shows what can be accomplished when putting the knowledge gained from Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) to work, even while still in high school. It also serves as a guide for developing similar student projects today!
