OverviewAn economic evaluation was conducted to determine whether the mass measles vaccination campaign carried out in a health district was more efficient than routine vaccination. The results could help in choosing the most appropriate vaccination strategies for achieving measles vaccination coverage targets in a context of budgetary constraints. This work consisted of collecting all the information on the resources mobilized under the various strategies, the target populations, the vaccination coverage targets assigned to each strategy, the results obtained by strategy, and their impact. Based on these data, we performed an economic analysis by calculating the main costs. We found that the mass vaccination campaign is four times less expensive than the routine campaign, which has an average cost of 758 CFA francs (US$1.50), while the marginal cost of the campaign is 135 CFA francs (US$0.27). We concluded that the mass measles vaccination campaign is an efficient strategy compared to the routine campaign.
