OverviewThis study conducted in the Chapada Diamantina was stimulated by observations previously made which suggested that there was a pollination deficit in the Eva orchard. The book therefore presents the results of studies carried out in 2008, 2010 and 2011, the main objectives of which are discussed in two chapters. In the first chapter, we assessed the pollination deficit in the apple orchard under the local conditions of pollinator management usually employed by growers. In the second chapter, we investigated the effect of supplementation with 7, 9 and 11 Apis mellifera hives/ha, with and without pollen collectors, on the density of visits and the production of seeds in the fruit. From this study we hope to determine the number of hives and the most appropriate management to increase productivity in the orchard. This book is aimed at all apple growers who want to increase productivity by using the Apis mellifera L. bee.
