OverviewThis innovative book integrates traditional and new leadership theories-including transformational leadership, leader-member exchange, authentic leadership, servant leadership, self-leadership, shared and distributed leadership, identity theory, and the value of emotions and affect-to provide a comprehensive look at the many facets of effective leadership. Practical and fun to read, the book incorporates personal reflections and current business examples to bring the theories of organizational leadership to life. In addition, engaging and relevant ""Put it in Practice"" features help students see how they can apply the leadership research to their own work lives, while leadership cases throughout demonstrate how real leaders have succeeded by applying the leadership principles discussed in the book. Written in a conversational style, the book is concise enough to be used in a case- or course pack-oriented course or in a modular program. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Ronald H. It is a cognitive, behavioral, and affective foundation for leadership practice that has been sorely lacking in the leadership literature. -- Anthony Andenoro 20130319 I really like what I have seen so far, particularly the emphasis on emotions/feelings and the author's invitations (via self-disclosure of stories) for personal reflection--quite different from the ethos of other leadership texts I've seen... -- Deborah Litvin 20130318 ...Readable, evidence-based, balanced coverage of topics, most key topics are addressed. The author has done a terrific job of identifying and summarizing a broad array of relevant research spanning several decades. Readers will have an excellent understanding of the nuances associated with the text's topics. -- Lucy Arendt 20130318 The cases are vivid and intriguing. The case study approach is incredibly effective and increases the appeal of this book to a broader audience...The comprehensive inclusion of case studies and anecdotes makes this text unique, engaging, and interesting. The author found a way to make an important and novel contribution to the textbook world. -- Emily Balcetis 20130318 [The Put it in Practice feature is] very good overall--the most useful for students looking for guidance and a distillation of what was covered... -- Luigi Lucaccini 20130318 I particularly liked the coverage of identity, charisma, and power. These subjects are discussed in more depth than I have found in other leadership texts. -- Jon R. Whitford 20130318 I am an instructor and a political consultant, and I study leadership through theory and application. This is one of the most true-to-life leadership books that also combines theory and application. It gives students a real good perspective on what leaders think and do. -- Sheneice M. Hughes 20130318 The author's writing style and spot-on examples and cases bring the material to life. The author is an extremely talented writer...This text reads like a business 'best seller'. I was thoroughly entranced by this book and couldn't wait to read more of it. I would recommend it to students and leader/manager practitioners. The summaries of research studies are excellent and can be put to immediate practical use. This is the best book on overall leadership (text or otherwise) that I have ever read. -- Machelle K.
