Brilliantly plotted and skillfully written, Effacement by Hieronymus Hawkes is a great book that will fill you with unease. Couldn't put it down! Loved the character development. Found myself with a secret crush on one of the characters. The story was great, kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next. What I really loved was the competent women in this book. There are five very competent women, who are friends or lovers. Cole respects each of them for their strengths even when he's in conflict with them. None of them are throw away sirens or damsels. If you like futuristic stories, give this one a try. It held my interest all the way to the end! Brilliant! The writer had me hooked immediately. But the real power here is in the novel's theme--humanity's increasing hyperconnectivity, and the unforeseen consequences of that persistent connection. Hieronymus had a rather idyllic childhood, growing up in the woods of West Virginia. He spent most of his time outside as a kid, playing sports usually, basketball, whiffle-ball, and a lot of two-hand touch football, among many other things. He loved to draw and read, science fiction mostly, when he wasn't playing sports or board games. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a degree in Economics, then went on to a thirty-year career as an Air Force pilot, where he got to travel all over the globe. He was married for twenty-eight years before losing his wife to breast cancer. But is the father of four grown children. In June of 2015 he completed an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. It took him a long time to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. When he's not writing, he is probably listening to music, reading, or surfing the web. He also draws in pencil and pastel chalk and enjoys a good poker game.
