OverviewThis qualitative research study focuses on the educational needs of homeless adults as they navigate the myriad of services systems public and private that exist in the United States. Dr.McKinley's research contributes both to the fields of adult education and of social work. While both disciplines aim to provide specific services to their clientele ,this monograph serves as a bridge between the two disciplines. Specifically the first hand experiences of homeless adults from a variety of backgrounds --urban, rural, American Indian, White, Latino and Afro-American being served by faith-based anti-poverty organizations are discussed and the experiences of many individuals are highlighted in their efforts to exit homelessness and provide for themselves as much as possible. The work would be impossible without extensive field work and a professional commitment to empower those many individual clients who need both education and a means of creating a stable, productive life.
