OverviewDealing with human rights and human rights education belongs in the field of civic education. In this context, intercultural competence/ICC proves to be a good cross-link. Based on the current report of the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg) using the year 2003 as an example, the situation in Europe will be examined and put up for discussion with two current examples from Austria.A tried and tested lesson and project design with integration into history - social studies/political education lessons - with four thematic blocks on the topic - presents aspects of human rights education within the framework of political education. This was used at university (history - social studies/political education teacher training) and in adult education (work with parents or ""Freude an Bildung""/ political education course). The study's considerations are rounded off with children's rights, a brief history of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the development of human rights. Finally, contributions are made to the discussion on human rights in terms of intercultural/global developments.
