In 1989 Awo Falokun Fatunmbi traveled to Ode Remo and received initiation into Ifa, the indigenous religion of the Yoruba culture located on the Western central rain forest of Africa. Two years later he returned to Ode Remo and received initiation into Ogboni, the traditional judicial council of elders. In the years immediately following his intiation he studied Ifa in the United States with Awo Medahochi, Awo Fagbemi, Awo Fasuyi, Awo Fasina, Baba Andou, Baba Adebesi, Iya Oshun Miwa and Awo Fatumise.
